The American Turkish Friendship Council follows its strong tradition in working to build stronger cultural bridges between the United States and Turkey by participating in the Annual Winter Wonderland: Celebrations and Traditions around the World exhibition and program series at the Fernbank Museum in Atlanta, Georgia. The event is organized to present Atlantans of all ages the diversity of groups, traditions, holidays and events from around the world including Turkey. Close to 50,000 Atlantans visit the exhibit each year.
In 2010 and 2011, the ATFC collaborated with the Turkish Honorary Consul of Georgia to decorate a festive tree using traditional Turkish embroidery and evil eye beads. Additionally, the Georgia Tech Turkish Student Organization presented a folk dance performance from the Karadeniz (Black Sea) region of northern Turkey to expose the visitors to the vibrant lives of the people in the region.
The Forth Annual Winter Wonderland event was held November through January 2014 once again at the Fernbank Museum in Atlanta, Georgia. The ATFC decorated the tree with ceramic balls and kaftans to beautifully display the prominence of tile craftsmanship in Turkey. ATFC has already begun making plans for promoting the diversity of the rich Turkish culture with arts and crafts as well as other festivities to Atlantans for the upcoming exhibit.
