Dr. Volkan Adsay

  • Dr. Volkan Adsay was born in Ankara, Turkey and was educated at TED Ankara College. After graduating from Hacettepe University School of Medicine, and having done 2-years of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Residency in this Institution, Dr. Adsay moved to the United States and completed a Pathology Residency in New York and went on to complete a two-year fellowship in Oncologic Pathology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He then joined the Faculty at Wayne State University and Karmanos Cancer Center. 
  • Dr. Adsay is an internationally-recognized pathologist in the field of gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary cancers. He has published over 180 peer-reviewed articles, authored several chapters in the most prestigious textbooks of Gastrointestinal Tract Surgery and Oncology. He was co-author in multiple chapters in the World Health Organization’s "classification of tumors" series. Among his contributions, he was instrumental in the characterization of various tumor types of the pancreas and biliary tract, and was also the member of an international group that put forth the definition and criteria early cancerous lesions of these organs. He serves as committee member in several national and international academic medical societies. He has given over 90 lectures at national and international platforms. He sits in the editorial board of 7 medical journals. He is also the recipient of multiple teaching awards from medical students and residents.
