Chairman Emeritus


  • Mona Diamond Sunshine became the Turkish Honorary Consul General for the State of Georgia in 2005. In the same year, she founded and became the Chairman for the American Turkish Friendship Council, a not-for-profit organization for the promotion of close relations between the United States and Turkey.

  • Ms. Sunshine is the founder of the Turkish Lecture Series at Emory University, an endowed lecture series. Being deeply committed to education, she is working with Emory University as a member of the International Advisory Council with the aim of bringing Turkish Students to Emory University. She also sits on the President's Advisory Board at Oglethorpe University. Ms. Sunshine has obtained a grant from the Turkish government in order to have the Turkish language taught at Georgia State University.

  • In 2003-04, Ms. Sunshine was Vice President of the Turkish American Cultural Association of Georgia, where she took on the duties of Membership and Educational Chairman. In 2003, she received The Turkish Women`s League of America award for her successful efforts and help to the Turkish American Cultural Association of Georgia.

  • Mona Diamond Sunshine has been a member of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations for many years. She is also a member of the Ataturk Society in Washington, D.C. In 2002, she received the "Women of Distinction" award from Daughters of Ataturk acknowledging her contributions to the Turkish community.

  • Ms. Sunshine sits on the National Board as well as the Atlanta Board of the American Jewish Committee. In 2000, she received the Women of Achievement Award representing the American Jewish Committee.
